Taj Khazana

Brought This
Vision to Life

Project Brief

Taj Khazana, a boutique known for celebrating Indian craftsmanship, required interiors that would reflect cultural heritage while offering a refined retail experience. Likhai was entrusted with curating a space that preserved the elegance of traditional design, with a clear emphasis on Bengal’s artistic legacy.

Design Strategy

The design revolved around authenticity and narrative. The highlight was a false ceiling inspired by Nakshi Kantha, the iconic embroidery art of Bengal. This artistic ceiling installation became the centrepiece — detailed with stitched motifs and quilted patterns, seamlessly integrated into the space. Soft lighting accentuated the depth of the textures while complementing the surrounding finishes. Natural tones, handcrafted elements, and subtle accents created an immersive, elegant atmosphere true to Taj Khazana’s ethos.

Key Areas Addressed

Nakshi Kantha-Inspired False Ceiling

A stitched and patterned installation, merging craft with architecture.

Handcrafted Material Finishes

Textures and surfaces that echoed artisanal tradition.

Lighting Strategy

Focused illumination to enhance textile detailing and elevate the space’s warmth.

Spatial Styling

Outcome

The final result is a rich, immersive interior that feels both timeless and culturally grounded. By integrating Nakshi Kantha into the design, Likhai created not just a ceiling — but a conversation piece that ties tradition, art, and space into one harmonious narrative. Taj Khazana stands as a celebration of craft, preserved through design.

Nakshi Kantha

Nakshi Kantha is an art form involving embroidery and quilting that originated in Bengal and serves to narrate stories through stitches and designs showing love, care, and community values. Nakshi Kantha is a traditional and unique form of art hailing from Bengal (present-day Bangladesh and West Bengal in India), which has its roots in the 15th century. The word Nakshi means embroidery and Kantha essentially means quilt or blanket, showcasing the form of this art. Nakshi Kantha has been handed from generation to generation and focuses on the art of sewing and quilting fabric often depicting images, tales, legends, and daily activities. This traditional art form, usually made by women, is highly symbolic with various stitches, shades, and designs, representing devotion, tenderness, and togetherness. Inscribed in the list of the Intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, Nakshi Kantha is still popular and practiced as an art.
